Parking
PARKING is a premium at Wakefield. If you want to park close to the trail to registration, you need to arrive early (before 5:00PM), park nose-in, and always follow the directions provided by the volunteer parking attendants. There will be overflow parking allowed on the out-bound lane BEFORE the Audrey Moore RECenter. You are asked NOT to park in the Audrey Moore RECenter Parking Lot, since those parking spots are for RECenter, Skate Park, and Tennis Court patrons only.
Power Station Road Access Notice
Please remember to park nose-first along the gravel road PAST the Audrey Moore RECenter Parking Lot, so that we can fit as many cars as possible along the side of the road. Also be aware that Dominion Power often needs immediate access to the Power Station (along with the PVC Race Direction Team), so please do not block any access to the road, and allow plenty of room for SUVs and utility trucks to get by.
Finding Registration
This year’s on-site registration is located on the Gravel Road directly next to the 495 Pedestrian Overpass. (Located to the NORTH of the RECenter) Once you’ve parked, walk up the gravel road and look for the tent canopies on the right hand side. After you register, please use the trail/cinder road directly across from registration to take you down to the Start Line.
Finding JUNIORS Registration
Registration for JUNIORS is located in the same location as the regular race registration, but completed at the Trails for Youth tent.
Junior Starts
The START LINE for the 5:30 PM JUNIORS race is on the gravel road just North of the Registration Tent but well before the Power Substation and Timing Tent. The JUNIORS groups are guided by Trails for Youth volunteers. Note that the JUNIOR race has both a modified start and finish to remove some of the venue’s more difficult features.
Starting Line
The START LINE for all 6:15 PM and 7:10 PM races is at the bottom of the Power Station Access Road directly next to the Power Station. (Not on the Cross-County Trail (CCT) this year). Racers start the first lap by climbing the steep loose gravel hill, turning Left at the top and heading for the single track just past the entrance gate to the Substation.
Finish Line/Spectator Area
The FINISH LINE for all races is located near the end of the Wakefield Park Gravel Entrance Road past Registration but before the road turns left and heads down to the Cross County Trail. You will see the Timing Tent and boundary tape near the FINISH LINE area. Please remain off the course to avoid any collisions with on-coming mountain bikes. If you have to travel along the course, use the extreme edges along the snow fence.
Avoid the Timing Tent — Seriously!
Please stay away from the Timing Tent at all times and do not block the vision of timers while they are working the course. Timing is a difficult task and requires concentration if we are to provide accurate results for all racers. Results for each race will be posted at the Registration tent between 15-20 minutes after the race has concluded.
